Richard & Jude’s post
Well the big news is that we have all booked the China leg and put down some meaningful mulla as a deposit. We have a date to work towards being the 6th May 2024 to leave Laos and enter China. Jah is going to meet us at the border to help with our visas and temporary import of the bikes plus our Chinese driving licenses. When we first discussed the trip back in Tasmania we did a rough calculation that the trip would be about 20,000 kms and should take us about 3 months starting around June. Now with more information and some amendments to the route and itinerary it’s looking like taking 6 months and over 30,000kms. Starting 1st Feb. Project creep or what. Dave and Leah have decided that due to their business commitments they will meet us in Bangkok and ship their new bike there. They have been looking at bikes to buy and reluctantly he thinks the BMW GS Adventure is the way to go especially for the sake of Leah as the pillion passenger. Lawrence has been telling Dave all along he would have to concede and get a GS and eat his shorts. Watch this space for the video. Lawrence has purchased a new set of Rukka riding gear from …. We are waiting to see the photos of him all kitted out. Likewise Jude and I have been shopping as well and purchased new Klim gear from Adventure Moto in Dural outside of Sydney. Jude and I will be going on a test run with the bike fully laden with as much of the gear we will be taking on the big trip including a full set of camping gear, primarily for the Australian leg of the journey. Although I did a 6500km trip to the very North of Australia with our good friend Brendan a few years ago Jude and I have not done a long trip camping and fully laden so we are keen to see how the bike handles with all the extra weight of the gear. Total all up luggage with two us is about 220kgs not inc the bike. How will we handle camping and will our posteriors survive the long days we intend doing
