Two down but not forgotten

​Sad news today, our good friends Dave & Leah won’t be able to join us on the trip!

Dave’s dream is to ride through China and to maybe incorporate the chosen route into a Rams Adventure in the future, but the uncertainties about bike licences and permits for EBC (Everest Base Camp) -Kailash-Kashgar (part of G219 from Lhasa to Kashgar), cast some doubt on that.

Dave and Leah also have a lot going on in their personal lives. Dave is busy promoting motorbike adventure company Rams Adventures as much as possible after the disastrous period over Covid when the business was effectively mothballed, and Leah set up a successful Human Resources business over that same period. Dave actually has 3 Vietnam tours on in March next year with Rams and was going to miss the Australia leg, Indonesia and Malaysia; the plan was for him to meet us in Bangkok on the 1st April. They obviously have a lot going on business-wise but they also have a lot going on in their private lives too. They were both recently accepted to be foster carers for young children who can’t stay with their families for various reasons – as you can see, Dave & Leah are no ordinary couple!

​We will certainly miss Dave’s medical skills (he is a trained paramedic) and Leah’s organisational skills but I’m sure they will be cheering us on and will always be on the end of a phone line if we need them! We were talking as a group at the weekend and were saying just how difficult it is to be able to make a trip like this happen! If you’re younger than we are, you might have children to look after and be working to pay off your mortgage, if you’re older, you may be caring for elderly parents and may not be as fit & healthy yourself. We all have our own personal circumstances and you just need that ‘window of opportunity’ to open up. You then you need that window to coincide friends who you know and trust and would be happy to spend 6 months travelling with and their window, so we appreciate just how fortunate we are.
